Eric Swanick, head of SFU’s special collections library, shows off a first edition of The Historie of the Councel of Trent, printed in 1620. It’s one of 16 16th- and 17th-century books and manuscripts from Surrey collector Gregory Freeman on display in the Bennett Library’s special collections section until Jan. 31. Freeman was the second-place winner in last year’s national book-collecting contest for Canadians under 30. The display also includes funeral sermons for two Earls of Essex and a sermon preached before the House of Commons at St. Margaret’s, Westminster after the great fire of 1666.
