Faisal Beg, associate professor of engineering science, is the 2012 recipient of a Meritorious Achievement Award from the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of BC. The award recognizes Beg’s research into new biomedical engineering tools for the earlier diagnosis of diseases related to advanced aging and the human brain, such as Alzheimer’s disease, which causes dementia, and glaucoma, which causes blindness. Says Beg, “Science has become a team effort and this is an award on behalf of all the team members.” Beg collaborates with researchers around the world, sharing his computational tools for brain analysis.
