Seven SFU researchers will be among more than 700 speakers Feb. 16-20 at the 2012 conference of American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS)— the world’s largest general scientific society—at the Vancouver Convention Centre.

“The AAAS conference is a must for scientists, academics and science journalists from around the world, and provides an opportunity to showcase outstanding science taking place across Canada,” says SFU President Andrew Petter, a conference co-chair.

SFU scientists John Clague, Adam Holbrook, Anne Salomon, Mark Collard, Richard Routledge, Robert Young and Diana Allen will present research on topics ranging from cancer, climate change and shale-gas fracking to science communication, water security, ecosystem losses and innovation.

The AAAS, which publishes the journal Science, is an international non-profit organization dedicated to advancing pure and social science. Many researchers introduce their latest research at its annual conference, which has been held in Canada only once before, in Toronto in 1981.

The gathering has become a global forum where scientists, policymakers, media and the public discuss complex, interconnected challenges confronting the world.
