Softball stars rising
SFU’s women’s softball team finished second overall this season, with the second-year National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) division II Clan splitting its final two Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) regular-season games April 28 to finish behind first-place Montana State. The Clan had a rocky transition to the NCAA’s ranks last year, but it had some future stars peppered throughout the roster—and none have shone brighter this season than first-base phenom Kelsey Haberl and pitcher Cara Lukawesky. Haberl was named GNAC player of the year last week, finishing at or near the top in every major statistical category, including a conference-record .596 on-base percentage. And Lukawesky was named the GNAC pitcher of the year with a conference-leading 21 wins.
