All-party transportation forum
Find out how all four B.C. political parties plan on investing in transportation at the Next Generation Transportation: All-Party Forum on April 18, 7 pm at SFU Vancouver, Harbour Centre.
Presented by SFU Public Square, the forum will feature Mary Polak, B.C. Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure; Harry Bains, B.C. NPD Opposition Critic for Transportation and Infrastructure; Jane Sterk, Leader of the Green Party of B.C. and Duane Nickull, B.C. Conservative Party candidate.
“We’re really excited to bring together representatives from each major provincial party to discuss transportation as an election issue for Metro Vancouver residents and to start a conversation,” says Claire Havens, program manager with SFU’s Carbon Talks.
“We don’t want to fall so far behind in transportation investment in Metro Vancouver that we end up in the same situation as Greater Toronto.”
According to the Toronto Board of Trade, the Greater Toronto Area racks up $6 billion per year in lost productivity due to traffic congestion, and residents spend an average of 82 minutes a day commuting to and from work.
The free forum will also be available via webcast through SFU Public Square’s website. Following the panel discussion members of the live audience can question the panel, while questions will also be fielded from Twitter via the hashtag #BCtranspo.
Registration is required.
The Next Generation Transportation: All-Party Forum is presented by SFU Public Square, in partnership with Carbon Talks, SFU’s The City Program, SFU Centre for Dialogue, and Sustainable SFU. More details about this event can be found online.
