JASON BRAICH, BBA

While finishing his degree in business administration, Braich’s high points included podium finishes in three business case competitions, working as a teaching assistant, and a co-op term with KPMG. He has since been offered a full-time position with the firm, which is sponsoring his grad studies at the University of Saskatchewan. Braich will spend two summers at the university working towards his master of professional accounting and plans to write his CPA designation exam in 2015.

HelenCrofts

HELEN CROFTS, B.Sc.

While working toward her bachelor of science degree, Crofts split her time among her studies, membership on the SFU track and field team, volunteering with the Student Athlete Advisory Committee and coaching track and field at several Burnaby elementary schools. She’ll be taking next year off from her studies to train full-time at SFU, focusing on her track specialties: the 800-metre and cross-country courses. After that, Crofts plans either to work towards a master’s degree in science or to attend medical school.

BonnieTulloch

BONNIE TULLOCH, BA (Hons)

Tulloch’s early passion for writing children’s literature led her to pursue her BA in world literature at SFU. While working towards her degree, and volunteering in a local Grade 1 classroom, she explored how nonsense poetry can be used to develop children’s literacy skills. She’ll be attending UBC in the fall to pursue an MA in children’s literature and will continue to write children’s books with the aim of collaborating with children’s charities.

Courtnee Anne Anderson

COURTNEE ANNE ANDERSON, BA

While working towards her degree in health sciences, Anderson started rounds of harsh immunosuppressive drugs for a rare autoimmune condition known as Behcet’s disease, which causes painful inflammation of the blood vessels. In spite of nausea and hair loss triggered by the treatment, Anderson completed her degree and continued to volunteer up to five times a month for a host of charities, raising $9000 for Cops for Cancer alone. Next year, she heads to UBC to become a dietitian. Knowing from personal experience just how important health is, she wants to help other people optimize theirs.

AndreaCreamer

ANDREA CREAMER, BFA

After studying leadership recreation, Creamer decided she wanted to combine her interest in art with an interest in community building. While completing her fine arts degree, she chaired the Visual Arts Student Union, volunteered for the campus art gallery, created a radio show for the campus radio station and volunteered in the Vancity Office of Community Engagement at SFU Woodward’s Cultural Unit. Not done yet, Creamer plans to get her master’s of fine arts either in California or Switzerland and from there, “to make a difference in this world.”

ArthurArmstrong2

ARTHUR ARMSTRONG, BA

Armstrong is gratified to have completed his degree in psychology, but his proudest accomplishment during his time at SFU is the formation, in collaboration with several other students, of the Society of Arts and Social Sciences (SASS). As part of its mandate, SASS invited popular professors from across faculties to conduct special Thursday lectures, drawing close to 500 students in total. Armstrong will do his long practicum this fall on his way to becoming an elementary school teacher. In that role, he hopes to “build communities in my neighborhood.”

Manson_J_DL_010513

JOHNNIE MANSON, BA (Hons)

After working in fisheries aquaculture for a few years, Manson realized he needed a career with more human interaction. So he returned to school for a degree in the humanities. While completing his BA, Manson took on the role of department rep as well as communications coordinator for the Sociology Anthropology Student Union. He will attend UBC in the fall to earn his master’s degree in resource management and environmental sustainability. A member of the Tla-o-qui-aht (Tofino) First Nation, he hopes to work with B.C.’s First Nations on land and resource issues.
