Helen Crofts is back on track as a national champion after taking first place in the women's indoor 800-metre competition Saturday, March 9 at the NCAA Division 2 Indoor Championships in Birmingham, Ala. The Clan middle-distance runner, who sat out the 2012 season with an injury, capped SFU’s first appearance at the track finals with a time of 2:05:96 in the last race. Her teammates Michaela Kane and Lindsey Butterworth finished the final in fifth and eighth, respectively. "Our runners performed great and so did swimming and wrestling,” says track and field head coach Brit Townsend. Crofts was named Great Northwest Athletic Conference female outdoor track-and-field athlete of the year award and an SFU Lorne Davies Athlete of the Year in 2011. at.sfu.ca/qwWGqX
