Mary Ann Gillies, an English professor participating in the Canvas pilot project this semester, says her first taste of SFU’s new learning platform has been positive.

“It does what I want it to do in terms of storage of content, managing workflow and flexibility,” says Gillies, who doesn’t use WebCT and wanted to acquaint herself with the new system. “I like technology, so I played with it for a couple of weeks before the semester started. I also had good support from (TLC learning technology specialist) Robyn Schell.” Gillies especially likes the convenience of the Canvas gradebook. Her advice: “Start with how you want the course to run and how you envision the course being structured and then impose that on Canvas.”
