Street Eat Thursdays back at Burnaby
Street Eat Thursdays are back at the Burnaby campus this summer, offering a variety of fare from food-truck vendors.
SFU Dining Services first brought the food trucks to campus during last summer’s Mackenzie Café renovation and found they were well received.
“The food trucks were very popular,” says Kelly Dooley, student experience manager for Dining Services, which organized the pilot program. “We received a lot of positive feedback on our Facebook and Twitter accounts, as well as in person during events.”
Situated at a new location this year, Japadog and Kaboom Box set up on May 30 beside Sustainable SFU’s Learning Garden near Convocation Mall.
Fourth-year health sciences student Rayda Sheikh heard about Street Eat Thursdays through Facebook and decided to give it a try.
“It’s nice because it is different compared to the other selections on campus,” says Sheikh.
“Food trucks have become very popular in cities across North America,” says Dan Traviss, manager of Dining Services. “We wanted to bring a variety of food to what we are already doing up here. It also brings a local flare to our food.”
According to Dooley, Thursdays were chosen because they don’t interfere with other regular events and programs. Thursdays are also one of the busiest days on campus.
