SFU Student Services has won a gold and a silver Circle of Excellence award for its recruitment materials from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE).

CASE serves professionals working in the areas of alumni relations, communications, development and marketing at more than 3,600 educational institutions in 76 countries.

After winning several top awards at the CASE regional level, SFU’s student recruitment video went on to beat 48 other entries and win an international Circle of Excellence gold award. A poster, Are You SFU?, beat 25 entries in the Single-Page Publication design category to win the Circle of Excellence silver award.

The winning video, produced by Vancouver-based Karo Group Inc., features environmental science alumna Brooke Davis talking about her university experience. The video is the fourth in a series initiated two years ago.

“They’re cleverly done and beautifully produced, and they really do focus on what makes students’ experiences at SFU really different—flexibility, research opportunities, and the idea of being able to explore,” says project lead Leanne Dalton, associate director, communications and strategic enrolment management liaison for Student Services.

Student Services uses the videos in classrooms throughout B.C. and also posts them on the student services YouTube channel.

“Students really love the videos,” she says. “We really try to get across to them that the process of a university education is one of discovery and personal development.”

Dalton is particularly proud of the international silver award for a foldout poster that replaced the traditional 24-page viewbook this year.
