We're 50! Join the celebrations Sept 9
Join the excitement and festivities as Simon Fraser University celebrates its 50th Anniversary on Wednesday, Sept. 9.
“In five short decades, we have grown from our radical roots to become Canada’s ‘Engaged University’,” says Petter. “As we move forward with purpose, SFU’s 50th milestone challenges us to look forward with an even stronger commitment and focus on interdisciplinary education, cutting-edge research and far-reaching community engagement. We invite the community to come and engage with us on September 9 and at the many moments of celebration we have planned for our 50th year.”
It’s a year of milestones that include 40 years of delivering B.C.’s first Co-operative Education Program, and celebrating the 10th anniversaries of both the Faculty of Health Sciences and the SFU-Zhejiang University Dual Degree Program in Computing Science.

Don’t miss the food truck festival and entertainment at the Burnaby campus, and cake-cutting at all three campuses.
Celebrate and Savour
In the evening, 2,000 paying guests will converge on the AQ courtyard to enjoy a catered evening under the stars, hosted by SFU alumnus Christopher Gaze, artistic director of Bard on the Beach. Guests will dine on an array of food created by more than 30 of Metro Vancouver’s top chefs, while enjoying music and live entertainment that includes a fusion performance from SFU’s Pipe Band, Bollywood dancers and Aboriginal drummers. A fireworks finale will wrap up the inaugural festivities.
With many events taking place on Sept. 9, take a moment to plan your trip to campus. Depending on which event you are attending, there may be a recommended parking location. Where possible, consider carpooling or taking public transportation.
