Simon Fraser University freshman swimmer Collyn Gagne has been selected to Team Canada for the 2019 FISU Summer Universiade in Naples, Italy.

Racing in the 400-yard individual medley final at the NCAA Championships in March, Gagne posted a fourth-place finish to earn All-American honours. At the 2019 Canadian Trials at the PanAm Games pool in Toronto, Gagne moved from 9th rank to the bronze medal in the same event. That result earned a ticket to Naples.

The 2019 FISU Summer Universiade will run from July 3-14, with some competitions beginning on July 2 and will feature over 9,300 athletes from 128 countries.

To celebrate the milestone 30th edition and 60th anniversary of the World University Summer Games, the event returns to its first home, where it was originally held in Turin, Italy in 1969.  The Opening Ceremony will be held on July 3.
