A message from Joy Johnson and the Executive Sub-Committee on Equity, Diversity and Inclusion

I am pleased to announce that 25 SFU community members have been selected to join SFU’s first Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Advisory Council. This pan-university group will provide guidance on how to strengthen SFU’s commitment to fostering an inclusive workplace, learning environments and equitable opportunities for all.

The Executive Sub-Committee had the challenging task of narrowing 165 expressions of interest to just 25 Advisory Council members. The intent was to balance representation of community audiences – faculty, staff and students – along with diversity, geography, career and educational level, expertise and experience. Members must also be able to attend all planned meetings for the year.

Based on this high level of interest, Advisory Council terms will be one-year in length in order to involve more members of the community.

Meet SFU’s 2020 EDI Advisory Council

In addition to the Advisory Council, SFU’s work in EDI is supported by the Executive Sub-Committee and the Administrative Group. There are also people across the university supporting and advancing the work of EDI. They too will be part of the process to ensure their expertise and guidance is part of informed decision-making.

My thanks to all those who expressed interest in the Advisory Council. I am so encouraged to see this significant level of interest, and believe it demonstrates the support within our community for advancing EDI at SFU.

Sincerely,

Joy Johnson and the executive sub-committee on equity, diversity and inclusion
