The film critic/filmmaker exchange. A workshop by David Spaner.

A three-hour writing workshop for aspiring film critics, filmmakers, and film lovers, which will look at the changing role of critical writing for magazines, newspapers and blogs – and the filmmaker's role in the process.

Topics include:

  • History and importance of film criticism
  • Anatomy of a film review
  • How to submit story ideas to print and online publications
  • How to write a press kit – and how to use one to write a review

Participants will have a chance to write a review or press material and get feedback from the instructor. They may also choose to use past samples of their writing to rework during the workshop.
