Ernst's Bio

Next to being an Adjunct Professor at SIAT, I am a Professor for Human Computer Interaction at the Institute of Visual Computing, Department of Computer Science at Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences (Sankt Augustin, Germany). Prior to this engagement I worked at CURE and  TU Graz (in Austria), and Fraunhofer IMK / GMD  and Bauhaus-University Weimar, in Germany. My research interests encompass the analysis, design and validation of multi-sensory 3D user interfaces. I particularly look at audio-tactile interfaces and how they can be applied in the frame of 3D navigation in Virtual Reality systems and View Management for Augmented Reality, but I am also interested in other types of systems, e.g., mobile user interfaces. During interface design, I tend to focus human factors research, looking closely at perception and cognition factors that affect the usability and performance of an interface. Some of my key findings are published in the book 3D User Interfaces - Theory and Practice, which I co-authored.
