Position role: Research Assistant (two positions available)

Rate of pay: $22 - $26 per hour (including vacation and statutory holiday pay, no medical or dental benefits) based on experience and qualifications.

Human-AI Interaction Lab (HAI) in School of Interactive Arts and Technology (SIAT) invites applications for two Research Assistant (RA) appointment positions beginning Spring 2023 term. Both RAs will be focusing on Affective Computing and Interactive Agents research, with special emphasis on AI models for Natural Language Processing (NLP) or Computer Vision (CV) techniques.

Both RAs will be responsible for:

  • Training data collection from open-source datasets
  • Cleaning and pre-processing training data, management of the data pipelines
  • Building ML training and evaluation pipelines
  • Creating ML training environments in SFU HPC or in-house machines.

RA-1 focusing on NLP Research:

  • Took AI courses such as Intro Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Affective Computing and Natural Language Processing
  • Good Knowledge of Python, AI libraries (Pytorch, Tensorflow, Keras), NLP methods and libraries
  • Knowledge on text data cleaning
  • Knowledge on Docker or virtual environment setup for ML training
  • Knowledge on managing Linux environments, preferably previous experience in SFU’s HPC Clusters
  • Knowledge on building ML pipelines for training and evaluation

RA-2 Focusing on CV Research:

  • Took AI courses such as Intro Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Affective Computing and Computer Vision
