The FAQ !?
Last Updated: 2024-10-07 15:15
What do I create & are the schedules flexible?
While we are entirely flexible on schedules, our goal is to regularly create one piece of media content a week. The type of content you create is up to you, streams, animation, shorts, and more! We can help with ideation and support your creative journey.
Do I need prior experience? What skills do I need? Do I need to sing, dance, or perform?
Prior streaming or content creation experience is not required but will be helpful to understand the type of creator you are. Likewise, while we do not require folks to know how to sing, dance, or perform, any additional skills or creative ambition you bring to the table provides anchors to your content.
In the end, the most important factors we're looking for are creative passion, collaborative drive, and resilience against scuff.
What support do I get from StudioSIAT?
From motion capture to sound and music recording, StudioSIAT is working towards being a fully integration production studio for SFU's undergrad program, the community, and industry alike. As a Virtual Ambassador of StudioSIAT, you will have access to the skills, technologies, and space that StudioSIAT has to offer. You will also have the support of a producer with over a decade of production experience and creative support from the team at StudioSIAT.
What is the compensation? For how long?
This is a pilot project for StudioSIAT and is set to run for at least 12 months from debut with a chance of expansion and growth based on performance.
During that time, you will be paid a monthly $200 honorarium as well as additional honorarium for event appearances. You will also have up to $1000 per term for use on one project paying StudioSIAT staff & external artists and creators. (This amount may change on a term-to-term basis due to budget fluctuations.)
Who owns what I create? How much control do I have over the content?
As with most things you create at SFU, you own the content you create! With that said, it must be within our content guidelines. In cases where your content involves other company IP or other ambassadors, different guidelines may apply to ensure the safety of our channels.
How much creative freedom do we have?
In summary, you will have a lot of creative freedom and flexibility on what you want to create. While there are checks and balances, we've created a simple approval process to support our ambassadors. As you will be creating as an affiliate of SIAT, content must be made for ALL audiences and the SFU's Student Conduct policies apply.
Do I get to choose how my avatar looks?
To an extent yes. The avatar creation process is long and arduous so we've gotten started on the big pieces. You will still have the ability to change things prior to debut. If you have an existing avatar that you already create with, we may be able to adapt or use that as a foundation for the work you do at StudioSIAT.
Do I get to keep the avatar?
Virtual Ambassadors get to keep their avatars upon completing at least 12 months as Virtual Ambassador and may continue to use their name, brand, and avatar design as indie creators.
However, if a termination is required due to misconduct or other unforeseen reasons, StudioSIAT retains the rights to terminate the name, brand, and avatar design of StudioSIAT original IPs.
Why is SIAT doing this?
StudioSIAT is a hands-on experiential learning space where we provide students access to the latest production skills and technologies. As such, we're always seeking projects to elevate our own skills and challenge our team to create more and create better. Our Virtual Ambassador program provides an opportunity for SIAT staff and students to work on cutting edge technologies and connect in a culturally relevant medium while providing StudioSIAT the experience needed to deliver professional level learning to our students and high quality projects to our clients.
Questions from the community
Will the Ambassador's channel be disclosed or announced?
No, the Ambassador is to primarily create under the name and characters created by StudioSIAT. While the individuals chosen to be Ambassador may choose to disclose their role in the program, StudioSIAT guidance and guidelines strongly suggest against doing so for the safety and privacy of the individual ambassadors as well as the program as a whole.
What exactly is the format(s) of the vTuber model?
3D model only to start as we'd like the Virtual Ambassadors to make full use of the facilities available in our studios.
Are the character we play at StudioSIAT on their own channels, on StudioSIAT's, or on private channels?
We are still working on the details of this with administration but at this time, the primary activity will be on SIAT official channels and social media.
What is the audition process?
We're taking a 3 stage process to auditioning our Virtual Ambassadors.
- Stage 1 is applications which is ongoing now.
- Stage 2, the video & content test, is where successful candidates submit a piece of video content following our brief.
- Our final stage is the interview & stream test where we interview the successful candidates, test their streaming capabilites, and compatibility with each other.
We've started rolling reviews of the Stage 1 applications with expectations to finish by the end of October.
