Global Agents for Change--Changemakers

January 19, 2010

Sean Peters, an SFU Anthropology and Business student, is co-founder and chair of the board of directors of Global Agents for Change (Global AFC), a Vancouver based social change incubator that finds creative ways to impact global poverty.

Founded in 2006, Sean joined together with two other SFU students to find a way to make a sustainable impact on global poverty – something that would make meaningful change that would last into the future. Dreaming big, they chose a goal of raising one million dollars towards an “Opportunity Fund” that would provide for education and microcredit initiatives in the developing world. Three years later, they have raised $200,000 towards that goal, and continue to work towards creating a better world.

Global AFC has been recognized extensively by media worldwide, and identified by the United Nations for its entrepreneurial approach and ability to create immediate impact with minimal resources. Sean also sits on the board of Innovative Communities, a Victoria-based charity.

Sean created Changemakers, a $500 award that supports students who launch an innovative, grassroots project aimed at creating positive social change off campus.
