Biography

Samantha is a PhD candidate in the Department of Gerontology at Simon Fraser University. She completed both her bachelor’s degree (Acadia University) and master’s degree (York University) in sociology, researching grief and evolving bereavement practices. Her doctoral work focuses on bereavement care for older adults and aging families during the pandemic and the barriers in participating in mourning and ritual practices due to social distancing regulations. Sam’s other research interests include families over the life course, communication technologies as care, widowhood, and death education.
