Jet Pause

Soundscape Studies / Noise

Voluntary and habitual suspension of speech or other activity during the overpass of low flying aircraft near busy airports. The intruding sound is sufficiently intense to mask all other communication, and thus people simply cease all acoustic activity until it passes. This phenomenon, found frequently in schools and homes, has even extended to outdoor theatres.
