Transmission

Acoustics / Electroacoustics

In terms of acoustics, transmission is the propagation of a sound wave through an object or medium, as opposed to absorption or reflection of the wave. Some media transmit sound better than others, an effect which can be quantified (see sound transmission coefficient).

See: Sound Insulation, Soundproof, Sound Propagation. Compare: Acoustic Radiation, Diffusion, Incidence.

In the context of radio, transmission is the conversion of sound into electromagnetic waves in the radio spectrum.

See: Channel, Demodulation, Modulated Carrier. Compare: Communication, Receiver.
