Treble

The frequencies or pitches in a high range, usually undefined as to the specific limits implied. Opposite of bass. In music it refers to the highest part in a choral piece.

Many amplifiers intended for home use have one control marked 'treble', which alters the gain given to higher frequencies. However, such a simple control does little to improve sound quality in any meaningful way, and is more generally used to eliminate hiss on equipment with poor frequency response and signal-to-noise ratio.
