REEL 5 COMMENTARY

1. Churn begins (40"). It sounds quite a bit smoother. Compare with those on Reel 4.

2. Same.

3. Disturbances in left channel (2'10" - 7'00"). Setting of table, preparations for meal, etc. All generations present. Actual eating starts after 9 minutes. Long silences with eating sounds, alternating with laughing and talking. Topics of conversation are: yesterday's jam session (approx. 10'00" - see also Reel 3); butter churns (14'30" -- see also Reel 4 and 5); the Hutterites (15'30" - 21'30"); Doukobours and Hutterites (29'30" - 31'00").

4. High frequency rustle, very quiet otherwise. Steady rising and falling of wind. Good take. Wind becomes stronger (5'00"), birds are singing (9'30").
