REEL 56 COMMENTARY

1. They are buzzing in a quiet ambience, but no 60 cycle hum audible, not very clear.

2. The river murmurs in deep tones. It is not necessarily clear that this is a river sound. Sounds more like distant thunder. Wind strangely mysterious.

3. Nice approach, train horn toots at recordists, good long disappearance because of quiet ambience. River not audible here. Only wind.

4. Amplified sound from car, re: Oct. 29, elections in Quebec. Cars passing continuously.

5. Nice and quiet ambience. Birds singing. Train whistle very clear in distance (0'30").

6. Woman walking her dog. Birds, and some occasional unidentified roar.

7. Increased city roar and traffic but still relatively quiet. Inside sounds of floor boards creaking. Horse's hooves (3'15"-3'30") then masked by truck. Wind in maple tree. Distant siren (7'05"), bell and sirens (9'15"), another close bell (10'20"). Horse's hooves (10'25"), Gun (10'45"), more bells close up, ringing (11'00"). Acoustically a very active interesting noontime.
