REEL 77 COMMENTARY

1. Like last take on reel 76, very peaceful.

2. Extremely quiet, extremely uneventful, except for what seems to be a distant snowmobile (1'40", 3'00") and a dog (4'15").

3. Rich texture and changing pulsations in the line. Throbbing pattern changes (2'30").

4. At this stage of the tour, it was about 90% driving, 10% recording -- hurrying back to Vancouver. Take opens with high-speed, flat out prairie driving (note the heavy low frequencies), slowing to 70 mph, then stopping for gas. Car whizzes by (2'30"), blinker signal and slowing down (3'15"), motor off (4'00"), door opens, seat belt buzzer and door closes (4'40"). Note the amazing silence after all this.

5. Sparse traffic, it is evening, road is slippery. Careful driving. At 1'30" car pulls up close to microphones, idles, skids loosely away again. More idling, skidding (7'00").

6. Night time ambience by country road near Brandon, roar comes from distant plant. Note the fluctuating amplitudes and phasing effects. Great sound. Teenagers parked nearby, cries and shouts (3'00").

7. Like B,4 first part. It's a horrible sound.
