COMMENTARY

1. See P's commentary on log sheet. Passing train creates interesting glissando; otherwise very quiet ambience.

2. Has to be turned up in volume to be audible.

3. Lots of noise at the beginning; noise stops just in time for brewery whistle! Birds are singing intensely - one bird on one high, clear pitch, very beautiful and without background noise. The approaching train is accompanied by birdsong and footsteps. After that, noise again.

4. Whole take has to do with figuring out the intricacies of the Nagra: the recordist going crazy. A minute of ambience - very quiet!

5. Clock bell, lots of wind in mic. Ringing for funeral has an interesting progression: 3 bells, top pitch bell rings alone, then middle pitch alone, then low pitch alone; then middle and top one return, one after another for a ring of all:

After ring, quiet ambience.

(See Reel 7, conversation in hotel about this ringing)

6. & 7. Traffic sounds with fast and slow ticking, a signal for the blind at street crossing; an interesting clear sound.

8. Walking into basement, some distant talking & laughing, doors opening, change in ambience sound of the grinding machine, with and without grinding, not unpleasant continuous sound, not very loud.
