REEL 119 COMMENTARY

1/2. Standing close by the falls, at the top about 15-20 yards distance. SPL: 83 dBA, 89-90 dBC.

3. Walking toward the falls through paths in forest. An experiment in hearing the different colourations of the spectrum at various points along the path.

4. By a dirt road. Creaking tree in an otherwise silent ambience.

*5. Creaking tree is closer, much clearer. Great!

0'55" squirrel.

6. By the motel, this squirrel presumably didn't want recordists around. Very nice close-up sound, Some hi-fi nagging!

7. Very subtle ambience, headphone necessary. A slight rise and fall in wind is all that happens. Before the wind itself is audible, a nearby tree starts to creak. Then from the right the wind can be heard coming down the sides of a forested mountain bounding the lake.

1'30" distant birds,

4'00" dead quiet,

7'15" slight wind begins to build.

8'50" somebody approaches from behind.
