REEL 121 COMMENTARY

1. The river is about 75 yards wide at this point, shallow, with a rock-bar in the middle, microphones are about 25 yards from the main sound source. This take was recorded close to the fast running part.

2. Less rapid flow, river is narrower and deeper here. More foreground gurgle, nice. Fast flowing sound is in background.

1'00" sound from highway 1/4 mile off.

2'10" again.

3. microphones were positioned in trees, 40 feet from lakeside. The reverberation of the wave lapping is a highly exaggerated effect of the microphone position. They were pointing up off the ground into the trees.

4. mostly inaudible, low hum from power generator 1/2 mile away.

SPL: 24-26 dBA, 38-39 dBC.

5. Microphones closer to water, more audible than take 4.

0'15" water bird.

1'50" little bird, voices from hikers across the lake.

3'15" bird.

6. Microphones 15 feet from edge. Swiftly flowing water. River is bending on a fairly sharp curve.
