REEL 6 COMMENTARY

Various takes from different positions of the Dragon Dance. Traffic for the most part has been cordoned off (compare Reel 5 for normal ambience). Mixture of Chinese, English and other languages. Drums and firecrackers are almost constant.

*1'14" spatial shift to firecrackers, and explosions shortly afterwards in sync with drum beat.

*3'50" tire squeal.

4'55" engine ignition.

7'00" parade gradually moves away to right.

7'45" note change in firecracker sound as distance increases less discrete events.

8'00" banging on metal rhythmically, brief.

8'40" truck in distance.

2. Same elements as in previous take. Firecrackers and drums more diffused here, though and seemingly lower in frequency (less bright).

3'00" drums and firecrackers fading, voices clearer.

4'50" close voice of child.

5'00" mic. noise, traffic becomes audible.

9'25" distant police whistle.

On the whole this take is less interesting.
