REEL 126 COMMENTARY
1. In the sealion caves, near the Oregon coast. The cave is large, 125' high, the intersection of two faults in the cliff face. Heavy surf sounds, the sealions bark and roar--gargantuan reverberations. Noise grotto. Sounds are very indistinct, unrecognizable. The barking sounds electronic, surreal, frightening. Starts with walking downstairs.
2. Same as 1.
3. Reading from sign describing sealion activity, and the cave itself. Sealions in background.
4. Looking, hearing out of a hole in the rock side out to the cave face where several hundred animals are sunning themselves a few hundred feet distant. Dripping water near the microphones in the foreground. Distant barking. Less roaring and surf -- dry, outdoor space except for the dripping water.
5. Several hundred birds wheeling and screaming then settling down again. (Called in scientific circles epideictic display -- a kind of headcounting technique.) Incredible racket!
