Simon Fraser University Sports Analytics Group

Welcome to the SFU Sports Analytics Group, aka "Analytics U."

The SFU Sports Analytics Group consists of professors, graduate and undergraduate students, coaches, and sport staff from across the SFU community who are deeply curious about sport and the role that data can play in shaping it.

We are highly active: we collaborate on research projects, we teach courses and workshops, we host seminars and conferences, and we compete in analytics competitions. We create opportunities for everyone to partake in the world of sports analytics.

We study problems pertaining to all facets of sports, including athlete selection and preparation, sport tactics and strategy, event management, cheating detection, sports betting, etc. We provide a full spectrum of expertise: our faculty members come from the statistics, kinesiology, business, communications, computing science, engineering, and mathematics disciplines. We collaborate with professional sports teams, high-performance sport organizations, technology and analytics companies, and community organizations to generate high-impact research insights and innovative technologies for professional practice.

We engage students inside and outside of the classroom through opportunities to work with leading professors and sport leaders. Our students win prestigious international competitions like the NFL Big Data Bowl. Graduates of SFU routinely find employment in top-level sports organizations, including the NHL, NFL, media companies, etc. We truly are "Analytics U."
