HOW TO PREPARE FOR AN INTERNAL OR EXTERNAL INSPECTION
Internal inspections are undertaken by the Radiation Safety Office at SFU on an annual basis. External inspections are undertaken by the Compliance Branch of the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission, either annually or biannually. You can prepare for both of these occasions by inspecting your own laboratory, using the inspection forms provided below.
Quick Pre-Inspection Check List
For Complete Self Inspection:
Download an Inspection Form for an Open Source Lab:
Open source labs are those which use liquid, powder or gaseous radionuclides such as P-32, C-14, H-3, P-33, S-35, etc.
Download an Inspection Form for a Sealed Source Lab or Lab where there is a Source in a Device:
Sealed Sources are those sources which cannot spill, such as the sources in gas chromatographs, liquid scintillation counters, Mossbauer spectroscopy sources, etc. A source in a device includes gas chromatographs with electron capture detectors and nuclear gauges.
