Safety Training Information
Site specific training is the responsibility of the department or unit. Safety orientation is generic and has broad application beyond a single department. Heads of units must ensure that all persons working or studying within their unit receive safety orientation and training before starting work and that all training is documented. EHRS assists with providing safety orientation.
Supervisors provide Site Specific Orientation and Training
To assist departments in meeting their orientation and training obligations, EHRS has developed a Job Specific Safety Orientation Checklist and a number of safety courses. The Supervisor Orientation Guideline outlines the required topics.
Department or unit specific training and orientation may also need to be supplemented by EHRS safety courses such as Ergonomics, Fire Warden and Building Evacuation Coordinators training, Level 1 Occupational First Aid, Laboratory Safety, Transportation of Dangerous Goods, WHMIS and Safety Committee Member Training. A safety course list is available. If a required course is not listed, contact EHRS at email@example.com.
The safety course list outlines course details and registration information. Additional information can also be obtained by contacting the Safety Assistant, Anne Carchesio, firstname.lastname@example.org, 778.782.5935.
Contractors performing work at SFU are required to attend contractor-specific safety orientation where SFU safety expectations are outlined and potential for safety hazards is identified and addressed. The criteria for contractor classification are outlined in contractor safety management. Contact EHRS to schedule a session. Orientation must be repeated annually for returning contractors. A contractor Power Point presentation is also available for your reference.
