ISG 2018 Korea Chapter

October 05, 2018
Dr. Andrew Sixsmith was asked to present at ISG 2018 Korea Chapter: International Symposium on ICT-based Community Care for the Elderly Living Alone on October 5, 2018 in Soeul Korea.

Dr. Sixsmith presented on Technology and the Challenge of Aging in the 21st Century. Aging is one of the major global challenges of the 21st Century, requiring new approaches if we are going to respond to the needs and aspirations of a growing number of older adults. Because of demographic, social and economic changes, more older people are living alone. For some people, the aging experience is about being isolated, poor and lonely - a situation that leads to poor psychological, social and health outcomes. Dr. Sixsmith's presentation examines some of the factors leading to social isolation in the Canadian context. Potential technology-based solutions being developed by the Canadian AGE-WELL Network of Centres of Excellence are presented.
