2014 June 1: Save the Date: Terry's CAUSE on Campus Sept 24th, 2014 - Take a survey from SFU Dining Services for a chance to win one of three prizes - more
Save the Date: Terry’s CAUSE on Campus (Walk/Run) – Sept. 24, 2014:
On Wednesday, Sept. 24 you are invited to join hundreds of SFU students, staff and faculty who will walk, run, volunteer and fundraise at this special event in honour of Terry Fox called Terry’s CAUSE.
As many of you know, Terry Fox was an 18-year-old SFU kinesiology student when he was diagnosed with cancer in 1977 and shortly afterwards he began training for the Marathon of Hope at the Burnaby campus.
Every year SFU honours Terry’s dream, determination and courage by hosting a walk/run event on all three SFU campuses in support of the Terry Fox Foundation. I hope you will consider participating in this year’s event.
I am also pleased to advise that Jeremy Pearce, a student-athlete (football) with a joint major in Criminology and Sociology, is this year's Terry Fox Gold Medal recipient.
More details are available on the SFU Terry Fox Day website at www.sfu.ca/terryfox.
Thank you.

President and Vice Chancellor

Why have hundreds of SFU students become Peer Educators?

"Being a peer really helped me solidify my goals in life and better understand myself. When I started my SFU career, I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life, but my time as a peer has shown me that I have countless options and choices open to me and that I should pursue my likes and interests - because that creates a really rewarding experience."

SFU Human Rights Policy
The following message is sent on behalf of Dr. Barry Cartwright, Human Rights Policy Board, Chair.
The SFU Human Rights Policy (GP18) was last reviewed in 2008-2009, and last revised on February 1, 2010. In accordance with Section 15 of the Policy, which directs that “this Policy will be formally reviewed at least every five years”, the Human Rights Policy Board (HRPB) is seeking comment about the Policy from the SFU community.
In general, the HRPB believes that GP18 has worked well since its last revision. The HRPB is contemplating minor revisions to section 6.7, to bring the Policy in line with the fact that complaints involving allegations of personal harassment are on occasion dealt with under the interim measures and mediation procedures described in sections 7 and 8 of the Policy.
The current Policy can be viewed at www.sfu.ca/policies/gazette/general/gp18.html.
Please send comments, suggestions or questions to the HRPB via email at hrp-gp18@sfu.ca, or go to the online survey at websurvey.sfu.ca/survey/162185018 by Friday, February 28, 2014.

Each year on the Day of Caring, SFU volunteers its resources to complete a project for a charity that's supported by United Way. It's able to complete the project with help from volunteers from the SFU community.
This year's Day of Caring is Thursday, October 24 and we'll be at Alexandra Neighbourhood House in Crescent Beach (Surrey); we'll be removing some gravel from a play area, spreading soil across a 400 square foot yard and laying rolls of sod (grass) on top of that soil.
We're in need of volunteers with a love of the outdoors, strong backs and a desire to share their skills to make light work of this heavy lifting.
Will you join us? We'll provide the soil and the sod and the sandwiches for lunch: you provide the labour and welcome change for our neighbours.
