Calc Connect Peer

The role as a Calc Connect Peer is to primarily cultivate a connected, supportive and positive social learning environment in Calc Connect. In Calc Connect, MATH 150 students will be enrolled in one of ten weekly â‰¤ 30 person seminars, plus three hours of lecture per week (common lectures to MATH 151: Calculus I). During these seminars, students will engage in small group problem solving sessions on white boards. Content will primarily be pertinent calculus questions. Each seminar is lead by an instructor of MATH 150, and is to be supported by the volunteer position of Calc Connect Peer (2+ peers/seminar).

Calc Connect Peers will mentor students in how to be successful in university calculus, and participate in the engaging and dynamic group problem solving that will be present in all seminars. As recently successful calculus students at SFU, Calc Connect Peers are role models for these MATH 150 students, and as such, are expected to suggest good study habits and resources that they have used or been trained about (eg: the calculus workshop, office hours, student learning commons). This opportunity is simultaneously meant to support student learning in Math 150 and provide an enhanced learning and experience opportunity for Calc Connect Peer volunteers.

Should any subject arise that is outside of a Calc Connect Peer's depth, they should defer to the course instructor who will always be present, or an appropriate resource.
