Surrey Membership Information

SFU Recreation, in partnership with the City of Surrey, provides recreational opportunities to eligible SFU Surrey students and faculty/staff to promote a healthy, balanced life-style for our students studying and faculty/staff working at the SFU Surrey Campus.

Eligible SFU Surrey students and faculty/staff will be issued a Surrey Parks & Recreation Membership, which allows access to to City of Surrey operated fitness centres and pools, weight rooms, swim sessions, and non–registered aquatic/fitness programs.  

The closest facility is the North Surrey Recreation Centre, located across the street from the SFU Surrey campus directly behind the Surrey Central bus loop.

Membership Eligibility

Undergraduate Students

Undergraduate students are eligible for a Surrey Parks & Recreation Membership when:

  • The undergrad student is assessed the full Recreation & Athletics fee ($75.42) AND
  • Is registered in a minimum of 3 credits at the SFU Surrey Campus

If preferred, an SFU Surrey undergraduate student can choose to obtain an SFU Burnaby Membership, instead of an SFU Surrey Membership. Students must select their preferred campus and may not hold multiple campus memberships at the same time.

NOTE: the Recreation & Athletics fee is assessed according to the number of course credits and the type of course(s) one is taking. For details, please see SFU Undergrad Student fees and information.

 

Graduate Students

Graduate students are eligible for a Surrey Parks & Recreation Membership when:

  • The grad student is assessed the full Recreation & Athletics fee ($75.42) AND
  • Is either:
    a) Registered in a minimum of 3 credits at the SFU Surrey Campus OR
    b) Is registered ‘per term’ at the SFU Surrey Campus 

If preferred, an SFU Surrey graduate student can choose to obtain an SFU Burnaby Membership, instead of an SFU Surrey Membership. Students must select their preferred campus and may not hold multiple campus memberships at the same time.

How to obtain your Membership

Important Dates - Spring 2018:

  • SFU Rec Memberships will be available beginning Monday, January 8, 2018 (we apologize for the delay - we are launching a new registration system)
  • Eligible students will receive a receipt indicating the semester that their membership is eligible for. 

Step 1)

  • Using your SFU Credentials, login to the SFU Rec Web Portal.
  • Click the membership icon to view your eligibility*.
  • If you are eligible, an “SFU Membership – Surrey City Pass” option will be available to select. 
  • Follow the prompts to complete the registration process. A receipt verifying the transaction will be emailed to you.

Step 2)

  • Present your receipt and SFU Photo ID to the staff at the North Surrey Rec Centre.
  • You will then receive a Surrey Parks & Rec ID Card to use at rec centres throughout the municipality.

Students must activate their Surrey Parks & Recreation Membership at:

Once activated by the staff at the North Surrey Recreation Centre, a formal Surrey Parks & Recreation Membership Card with photo will be issued.

Memberships are only valid for the semester in which they were issued. You will need to renew your Membership each semester.  

Locker Rentals

Need a place to store your bags/books between classes? Book lockers (half length) are available for rent throughout the Surrey Campus. Locker rentals are available starting the first week of classes. The Recreation Department provides locks.

Important Dates - Spring 2018
 

  • Surrey locker renewal period: ends Tuesday, November 28th. 
  • Surrey new locker sales: begin Monday, January 8, 2018 (we apologize for the delay - we are launching a new registration system).

If you have a locker at SFU Burnaby, you will have to rent a separate locker at SFU Surrey. Fees for one locker do not transfer between campuses. Use of the lockers is at your own risk; SFU does not assume responsibility for the loss of or damage to personal possessions. Please leave your valuables at home.

If locker contents are not removed at the end of the purchased time, a locker clearing fee of $17.00 will apply. Lockers are non-refundable.

Locker contents that have been removed are stored at the Equipment Desk located at the SFU Burnaby Campus in Lorne Davies Complex.
