Vancouver Membership Information

SFU Recreation, in partnership with the Vancouver Park Board, provides recreational opportunities to eligible SFU Vancouver students to promote a healthy, balanced lifestyle for our students studying in Vancouver.

Eligible SFU Vancouver students will be issued a Vancouver Parks & Recreation Membership, which allows access to Vancouver Park Board operated fitness centres, public skating, and public swimming sessions during operating hours at the facilities listed below.

Membership Eligibility

Undergraduate Students

Undergraduate students are eligible for a Vancouver Parks & Recreation Membership when:

  • The undergrad student is assessed the full Recreation & Athletics fee ($71.06) AND
  • Is registered in a minimum of 3 credits at the SFU Vancouver Campus

If preferred, an SFU Vancouver undergraduate student can choose to obtain an SFU Burnaby Membership, instead of an SFU Vancouver Membership. Students must select their preferred campus and may not hold multiple campus memberships at the same time.

NOTE: the Recreation & Athletics fee is assessed according to the number of course credits and the type of course(s) one is taking. For details, please see SFU Undergrad Student fees and information.

 

Graduate Students

Graduate students are eligible for a Vancouver Parks & Recreation Membership if the following criteria are met:

  • The grad student is assessed the full Recreation & Athletics fee ($71.06) AND
  • Is either:
    a) Registered in a minimum of 3 credits at the SFU Vancouver Campus OR
    b) Is registered ‘per term’ at the SFU Vancouver Campus 

If preferred, an SFU Vancouver graduate student can choose to obtain an SFU Burnaby Membership, instead of an SFU Vancouver Membership. Students must select their preferred campus and may not hold multiple campus memberships at the same time.

How to obtain your Membership

Fall 2014 Important Dates:

  • SFU Rec Membership stickers will be available beginning Monday, August 18 from the Vancouver Campus Registrar's Office (Harbour Centre)
  • Vancouver Parks & Recreation Membership activation begins Tuesday, September 2.

Eligible students will receive a Rec sticker on the back of their SFU ID Card valid for 1 semester.  

Students must activate their Vancouver Parks & Recreation Membership at either of these community centres:

  • West End Community Centre - 870 Denman Street 
  • Kitsilano Community Centre - 2690 Larch Street
  • Mount Pleasant Community Centre - 1 Kingsway
  • Trout Lake Community Centre - 3350 Victoria Drive

Once activated by the Vancouver Community Centre staff, a formal Vancouver Parks & Recreation Membership Card with photo will be issued.

Memberships are only valid for the semester in which they were issued. You will need to renew your Membership each semester.  

Vancouver Parks & Recreation Memberships are only valid if the holder is an eligible SFU Vancouver Student.  

Please note: Vancouver Memberships will only be issued until the last day of academic classes for a given semester.
