CODES OF CONDUCT



 Membership and participation with SFU Recreation is a privilege. All members and participants are expected to:
  • Treat all staff, facilities and equipment with respect. Bullying, threatening and harassing behavior will not be tolerated. 
  • Promote an inclusive environment in which differences are valued. 
  • Act with courtesy and integrity while respecting the rights, welfare and dignity of other members and participants.
  • Conduct themselves in a safe and responsible manner and avoid causing harm to themselves or others.
  • Adhere to the policies and procedures set by the department and the university while using our facilities, services and programs.
  • Participation while under the influence of drugs or alcohol, or while in possession of weapons, drugs, and other illegal or banned items will not be tolerated.

 Members violating university policies, the Recreation Code of Conduct or Centre Code of Conduct may have their SFU Burnaby Recreation Membership or day pass privileges revoked.

COVID-19 CODE oF CONDUCT

Simon Fraser University, like all organizations, is required under Public Health Orders to ensure compliance with COVID-19 safety measures. All members of the SFU community are expected to comply with COVID-19 health and safety protocols. SFU Athletics and Recreation takes COVID-19 seriously and has zero-tolerance for violating health and safety rules. If individuals choose not to comply with safety protocols, they may be refused access to areas of our campus and/or additional disciplinary action may be taken.

Members violating University Policies or the Aquatic Centre Code of Conduct may have their Recreation Membership or Day Pass privileges revoked.

Membership with SFU Recreation is a privilege. All members are expected to:

  • Enter the pool only under the supervision of a qualified Aquatic Centre staff member.
  • Bring proof of membership (SFU ID or equivalent membership card) every time, and scan in. Do not leave your card in your locker or office.
  • Take a cleansing shower before using the pool. Wash off deodorants, hair sprays, gels, etc.
  • Children 7 years and under must be accompanied in the water by a responsible person aged 16 years +. They must remain within arm’s reach at all times.
  • Inform an Aquatic Centre staff member of any medical concerns such as asthma, severe allergies, heart condition, etc., before entering the pool.
  • Any member with open sores, bandages, head colds, discharging ears/noses, or infected eyes are not allowed in the pool.
  • Running, fighting, or any act likely to cause an accident in the pool is prohibited and will result in a suspension from the Aquatic Centre.
  • Spitting on the deck, in the pool, or in the gutters is prohibited.
  • Dive in deep areas of the pool only.
  • Discard chewing gum before entering the pool.
  • No glass containers or food are allowed on the pool deck.
  • Outside footwear is not permitted on the pool deck or shower areas. Bare feet, aqua shoes, or deck sandals only.
  • Respect and be courteous of your fellow members and Aquatic Centre staff.
  • Use equipment safely and properly. Do not use equipment for purposes other than what they were designed for.
  • Clean up after yourself.
  • Put away all equipment to its appropriate location.
  • No external or private personal training permitted.
  • Supervision (by a responsible person 16 years +) is required for members 7 years and under. Report any injuries, equipment malfunction, or concerns to the Aquatic Centre staff.

Members violating University Policies or the Fitness Centre Code of Conduct may have their Recreation Membership or Day Pass privileges revoked.

Membership with SFU Recreation is a privilege. All members are expected to:

  • Enter only through the main doors to the Fitness Centre.
  • Bring proof of membership (SFU ID or equivalent membership card) every time, and scan in. Do not leave your card in your locker or office.
  • Wear appropriate clothing and footwear:
    • Clean clothing
    • Shirts that cover the full torso (no crop tops or shirts that have large cut outs along the side). No jeans.
    • No open toed footwear or cleats.
    • Minimize the use of colognes, perfumes, and body sprays.
  • Respect your fellow members and Fitness Centre staff.
  • Be courteous and share equipment where possible:
    • Keep walkways clear of belongings and equipment.
  • Use equipment safely and properly. Do not use equipment for purposes other than what they were designed for.
    • Do not drop or bang weights together. It damages our weights and floors.
    • Keep weights off of upholstery.
  • Use of the internet on cardio machines with this functionality is done so as per SFU Policy GP-24 – Fair use of Information and Communications Technology.
  • Clean up after yourself:
    • Put away all equipment to its appropriate location.
    • Clean chalk off of the bars and floors if you are using this product.
    • Wipe down benches and cardio equipment after use.
  • No food or gum in the facility.
  • No external or private personal training permitted.
  • Adult supervision (19 years +) is required for members aged 15 and 16 years old.
  • Members 14 years and under are not permitted to participate in the Fitness Centre.
  • Report any injuries, equipment malfunction, or concerns to the Fitness Centre staff.

Members violating University Policies or the Rec Sports Code of Conduct may have their Recreation Membership or Day Pass privileges revoked.

Membership with SFU Recreation is a privilege. All members are expected to:

  • Bring proof of membership (SFU ID or equivalent membership card) every time, and scan in. Do not leave your card in your locker or office.
  • The Recreation Sports staff or official has the right to ask the participant to remove any equipment, jewelry, or accessory which they deem to be dangerous or inappropriate for the activity.
  • Wear appropriate clothing and footwear:
    • Clean clothing
    • Shirts must be worn. Shirts must cover entirety of torso.
    • No jeans, cargo pants/shorts, or any attire with protruding metal or pockets, may be worn during any Recreation Sports activity.
    • No open toed footwear.
    • Minimize the use of colognes, perfumes, and body sprays.
    • All jewelry must be removed or taped over from visible parts of the body before the participants are permitted to play.
    • All hats must be removed.
  • Respect your fellow members and Fitness Centre staff.
  • Participants are not permitted to compete in multiple leagues for the same sport that runs on the same day, with the exception of coed leagues.
  • Any person that is currently a member of a varsity sports team cannot participate in any intramural leagues associated with that particular sport. Recreation Sports defines a current varsity athlete as any person who has practiced or played with a varsity team on a regular basis in the past year.
  • Any team found playing with an ineligible player will forfeit any points gained in the standings with that player and will be subject to a default loss for the associated game(s). The Recreation Coordinator also reserves the right to remove the team from the league.
  • Players cannot be added to an intramural team’s roster during the playoffs. Participants must have played in at least 1 regular season game.
  • No more than 3 SFU Sports Club players can compete on the same team in any intramural league associated with that particular sport. They may be required to play at the highest level offered for that sport, as required at the discretion of the Recreation Coordinator.
