If you are Room Switching, expecting a New Roommate (Townhouse), or Staying in your current room, the below information is for you. Scroll down for Cleaning Checklists for each building.

Room Switching

Inspections will take place in Townhouse common areas between 12 noon August 17 (Move out day) and 4:00pm August 18. Re-inspections will take place August 28 between 9:00am and 4:00pm.

If you are room switching between the Summer and Fall 2018 terms:

  1. Know when your room switch date is - you will need to room switch / vacate your current room on that day.
  2. Units will be cleaned to acceptable levels following each inspection and cleaning charges will be assessed to all occupants.
  3. Ensure that when you move-out, that your room has been cleaned and your keys are returned to avoid charges
  4. NEW Key Pick Up: On your room switch date, pick up during Residence and Housing office hours
  5. OLD Key Return: keys need to be returned to the Residence and Housing office (no later than 11:59 pm) on the same day that you pick up your new, Fall term room keys

Staying in Room or New Roommate

Townhouse Residents need to update their key fob between July 30 and 12 noon August 17.

Hold your key fob it at an access point at the entrance doors of the Residence and Housing office.

All Roommates are responsible for cleaning duties. All the Cleaning must be completed by Friday August 17th 12PM/Noon on move out day:

  1. Make sure you leave space for your new roommates in all of the shared spaces
  2. Our facilities staff will inspect all shared spaces between 12 noon August 17 and 4:00pm August 18
  3. Our facilities staff will re-inspect all shared spaces  between 9:00am and 4:00pm August 28
  4. Units will be cleaned to acceptable levels following each inspection and cleaning charges will be assessed to all occupants.

Avoid the Charges

  • Return your keys and avoid the lock change fee = $155
  • Clean your room and make sure it is damage free. Cleaning and Damage Charges = $100 AVERAGE

Report Maintenance Issues

  • AVOID THE CHARGES: Make sure you fill out the form a few weeks before Move Out. Room inspections happen right after Move Out.

BEFORE YOU MOVE OUT: Any maintenance issues with your unit/room MUST be reported to our Residence Facilities team (via a maintenance request through your MyPlace@SFU Housing Portal)

Remove All Garbage + Recycle

Ensure your room and shared space (if living in Townhouses) is free and clear of garbage. Anything left behind could result in a charge to you.

Clean Your (Shared) Space

  • AVOID THE CHARGES: clean your shared space

Our maintenance staff will take photographs of any rooms that are left unclean, untidy, or damaged. Refer to the room condition/inventory form you completed when you moved in. Any damage or items needing repair will have been reported on this form and this will be the standard used to assess whether your room is left in the same condition it was received.

CLEANING CHECKLIST BELOW

Internet and WiFi Access 

If you are room switching or staying in your current room, your shaw SFUResNet Wifi password and SSID will not be changing. Leave ALL Shaw equipment in your room when you leave, including modem, remote control, and all cords.

  • AVOID THE CHARGES: Replacement charges for these missing items is up to $300

Key Return Available 24/7

If you are room switching, return your Summer term room keys on the same day (August 21st) that you pick up your new Fall term keys.

If you are remaining in the same room for the next term, you should NOT return your keys
