Support for any SFU student who needs to self-isolate

If you need to self-isolate, you should consider accommodation, food, and other resources.

Here is some more information on what you need to know, what to do, and who to contact.

Undergraduate student

Students living off-campus

Various situations will require you to self-isolate:

  • If you have been away overseas and are now returning to Canada
  • If you have not travelled but are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms
  • If you are at risk because of your living situation and need to self-isolate

Email us at student_support@sfu.ca, and someone from our team will contact you.

International students: If you are living off-campus, planning to arrive outside of Canada, or have travel plans to leave Canada and return, please register your plan with SFU a minimum of 10 days prior to travelling so we can help support you before and after your arrival in Canada.

Indigenous students: If you need to self-isolate and/or are at risk due to your living situation, please contact the Indigenous Student Centre at iscadmin@sfu.ca or the student support team at student_support@sfu.ca. Either team will provide coordinated, confidential support.

Students living in SFU Residences

If you are currently living in Residence and plan to travel outside of Canada, you must self-quarantine/self-isolate for 14-days OFF-CAMPUS upon your return to Canada before moving back into your room. Contact student_support@sfu.ca for planning assistance. If you are an FIC student: please register your plan with FIC.

If you intend to move into Residence, you must self-isolate OFF-CAMPUS if you are:

  • travelling from outside of Canada, or
  • are showing COVID symptoms in advance of moving in

If you are an SFU student: contact student_support@sfu.ca; if you are an FIC student: please register your plan with FIC.

If you are already in Residence and are experiencing symptoms, or if you have been in contact with someone with Covid-19, you must self-isolate. We will provide you with appropriate support, including meal delivery, and may include moving you to a different room/unit. Our student support team will check-in with you regularly.

Contact student_support@sfu.ca, and someone from our team will contact you. If you are an FIC student, please register your plan with FIC.

International and US students travelling to Canada

The Canadian government recently updated travel restrictions for international students. Please do not make any arrangements to travel to Canada if you do not meet the requirements. See our FAQs for more detailed information on immigration and travel.

The Canadian Government also announced new mandatory requirements for travellers to Canada. Travellers must now complete a self-isolation plan and submit it through the federal ArriveCan app in advance of travel, including arranging necessary supports (e.g., medication, food). Please be mindful of these requirements when you are preparing to travel back to Canada.

For more information on quarantine requirements and how to develop your 14-day self-isolation plan, please visit our Travelling to Canada: Self-isolation Guide for step-by-step instructions and tips.

If you arrive from outside Canada or plan to travel home for holidays and then return to Canada, you must register your plan with SFU at least ten days prior to travelling. If you are an FIC student, please register your plan with FIC.

If you want help planning for your self-isolation period or need any other assistance, email student_support@sfu.ca and someone from our team will contact you.
