Sustainability Ambassadors

About the Program

YOU CAN BE PART OF THE SOLUTION. BECOME A SUSTAINABILITY AMBASSADOR.

It is our honor to invite staff to participate in an innovative sustainability education and culture change program. Ambassadors play a unique role as sustainability educators and advocates within their departments. They are the connection between the SFU Sustainability Office and the campus community.

Ambassadors volunteer a suggested 1 hour a month during work time and receive support and resources[link to resources page] to carry out their roles. All projects will be easy enough to accomplish with minimal work and flexible enough to fit into a busy schedule.

Ambassador Role

Ambassadors are requested to do one or more of the following six actions each semester based on their own interest and availability levels:

  • Model sustainable practices and lead by example in their own offices
  • Assist their offices in achieving Green Office Certification by implementing a small semester long pilot project
  • Communicate university sustainability priorities and initiatives to colleagues
  • Connect with the team of Ambassadors from across the university to share tips, resources and advice
  • Launch and/or lead their office green team
  • Attend Ambassador events

Ambassador Requirements

  • 1 hour suggested commitment each month to fulfill one of the six Ambassador actions
  • Commitment to participate for one year minimum
  • Recruitment of replacement upon leaving
  • Informing supervisor of Green Office Certification Program

Related Responsibilities

  • Email information and event invitations and post notices to unit members as appropriate
  • Orient new office staff and faculty to SFU’s sustainability policy and practices
  • Attend monthly lunch sessions (4 per semester):
    • 1 Program Launch each semester
    • 1 Educational Lunch
    • 1 Networking/Support session
    • 1 Program Impacts/Results review session
  • Bring concerns and suggestions to the attention of SFU Sustainability Office staff
  • Report facilities concerns brought forward by colleagues in the SA’s department to appropriate Facilities Services staff
  • Notify the Sustainability Office staff if unable to continue in the position for any reason and to assist in identifying a replacement SA within your unit
  • Have fun!!

  • Energetic, outgoing, professional, and positive attitude
  • Excellent communication skills
