Sustainable Spaces: Labs

Sustainable Labs Certification

Research and teaching intensive laboratories require large amounts of energy to power equipment, such as fume hoods, centrifuges, and spectrometers, as well as the usual light, computers, and heating in the building.  Certified Sustainable Lab members consciously work to reduce energy consumption and waste through simple behavioral changes.   Certified labs not only reduce their carbon footprint and save money, they also receive a toolkit (which includes a green lab coat), support and resources to implement sustainable initiatives, as well as promotion and recognition.  They also receive a certificate and/or decal, posters, and other resources to promote their achievements and encourage others labs to participate.
