Intro to Dreamweaver and CSS

This week we will start by talking about the importance of developing your websites using CSS and XHTML and show you how to make pages that validate. We will also show you a global community of designers dedicated to designing beautiful website using standards complient CSS.

Skills:
We will show you how to create a simple CSS document using Dreamweaver as a assistive text editor instead of a WYSIWYG editor. You should always be handcoding your websites, and Dreamweaver%27s auto-complete features can make this easier for you.

Concepts:
We will talk about CSS, explain how it works and explain the difference between Inline CSS and Style Sheets. We will talk about why it is important for you to start creating all of your websites using CSS and XHTML.

We%27ll demonstrate how to lay out images and blocks of text using DIV tags as well as explain absolute pixel spacing and Z-depth.

Exercise:
We%27ll create a simple XHTML/CSS website with some text and images laid out using CSS in the Dreamweaver text-editor.

Wrap-up:
We%27ll remind you of the resources available and briefly go through the ones posted. As well, there will be time for students to ask questions and play around in the software.
