Multimedia for the Web

This week we will start by showing you several sites that use audio and video in interesting ways. We will show you how it is possible to put video and audio into your web projects.

Skills:
We will show you how to compress your video and audio using compression software and what compression formats and settings are good for different media. We will also show you how to embed these files into websites.

Concepts:
We will talk about different compression formats like MPEG-2, MPEG-4, AVI, ASF and more. We will explain how compression works and show you how to get the best quality out of our files. We will talk about streaming file formats and when it is appropriate or usefull to use them.

Exercise:
We%27ll go through the tutorial with you to create a simple web page with a quicktime movie embedded in it.

Wrap-up:
We%27ll remind you of the resources available and briefly go through the ones posted. As well, there will be time for students to ask questions and play around in the software.
