Fundraising Initiatives
2008
NEW! Jonathan Driver, VP Academic, will sponsor every dean who takes part in the 2008 Walk or Run!
HEADSTART! The Student Services team has raised $340 already from its 'Donate Your Pocket Change" coin drive in April and the donation jars at its booths at the SFU Open House Carnival in June.
Previous Fundraising Initiatives
In past years, SFU community members used some unique and successful fundraising initiatives:
- 2006 - The Kinesiology Department raised over $4,000 -- $1,300 from Kin 205 encouraging online donations from friends and family around the world.
- 2004 - The Student Services Olympians Team raised and donated $1,691.00 by encouraging staff to either fundraise or donate $20 each.
- 2004 - The Faculty of Health Sciences, the newest faculty on campus in 2004, raised and donated $708.00 by organizing a team and getting involved.
- The Business Department raised $635.70.
- The Residence team raised and donated $621.00. A brave residence leader (male) offered up his legs and chest to be waxed (Ouch!) in a fundraising initiative. Unfortunately, photos are not available!
- Team chemistry raised $501.50 by organizing class participation.
- The SFU Grad challenge raised and donated $485.00 whereby the Dean of Graduate Studies issued a challenge to All SFU Graduate Students: The Dean, Dr. Jon Driver, matched the first 250 entrants dollar for dollar. The Dean also donated $5 per student for the first 50 graduate students who finish before him.
- Co-operative education raised and donated $425.00.
- The SFU Physics Department raised and donated $238.17. They created their own donation jar that was passed around the office.
Many other department, clubs, groups and individuals successfully raised funds to donate to the SFU Terry Fox event, knowing that the proceeds go towards a worthy cause. What will your team accomplish this year?
