Team FAQ
What is a team?
- A team is a group of people (preferably 10 or more) with a commonality to any of our SFU campuses (for example a residence floor, club, department or academic unit).
What are the team captain's responsibilities?
- Make sure your team is as big as possible
- Encourage your team members to sign up online on the SFU registration form before the walk/run
- Register your team with the Terry Fox Foundation so you and your team members may collect pledges online (see our Fundraising section for instructions).
- Encourage team members to participate in fundraising -- you may wish to come up with some group fundraising ideas!
- Make sure your team members know when and where to show up on Terry Fox Day
- Make sure your team establishes a meeting place, and come with a bristle board-sized sign with your team name so that your members can find you
- Be creative and have fun - get your team to show their spirit in a unique way!
How do we win the team challenges?
- Get your team members to register online via the SFU registration form-- we will do an official count of the registrations as of 4:30 p.m. the day before the run.
- We will post additional information about the team spirit challenge closer to the run.
Do all of my team members have to do only the Walk, or only the Run, to be counted?
- It does not matter! Individual team members can do either the Walk or the Run.
How do I contact an existing team?
- Go to the current teams list page, if they are registered they will be listed and you can contact the captain.
Why do I have to register on both the SFU site and the Terry Fox Foundation site?
- Registering on the SFU webform ensures you are included in the team count and helps us plan how many runners/walkers we should expect on the day. Registering on the Foundation site allows you to collect pledges online. (You do not have to register with the foundation if you plan to collect pledges in person).
What is the benefit of being a team?
- Most importantly, you are helping to build community and spirit on our campus. What better way is there to create energy at SFU than by celebrating one of our campus's and country's greatest heroes by going for a walk or run with a group of friends along the very roads and paths he trained on for his cross-Canada journey.
- The team with the largest number of members and the team with the most spirit will be honored each year.
- Each team will be eligible to have a team photo taken and emailed to the captain after the event. Make sure to have your team sign in the photo so we can send it to you later.
- The largest team and the team with the most spirit will be announced following the conclusion of the Walk/Run.
Would I be counted as a part of a team if I am volunteering at the event?
- Yes. We encourage you to get involved in any way possible.
Is there a storage spot for my books, bags or jacket?
- Yes. A coat check station will be provided for storage. More information will be posted closer to the race day.
