Laptops in the Classroom: Help or Hindrance?

What happens to learning when students bring their laptops, phones and other electronic devices into the classroom? Karen Kohfeld (associate professor, School of Resource and Environmental Management) will present results from her Teaching and Learning Development Grant project, “Laptops in the Classroom: Help or Hindrance?” Kohfeld’s study looked at how student use of laptops and cellphones affected student engagement, learning effectiveness and learning experience. Join Kohfeld and her students for this lively presentation and dialogue.

Carson Au, a learning technology specialist in the Teaching and Learning Centre, will also join the discussion to share current research and practice regarding electronic device use in the classroom—including both suggestions for minimizing use and ways to turn these devices into effective pedagogical tools.

This is a brown bag event. Bring your lunch—we’ll supply drinks and snacks.
