What Have You Lost in the Last 20 years?
TSSU members already make a great wage even though the BC Liberals keep raising tuition... right? THINK AGAIN!
In 1984, graduate students at SFU paid less tuition and received higher wages than we do today. According to the Canadian Price Index put out by Statistics Canada, when we adjust these dollars for inflation, our tuition has gone up by 51% while our wages have dropped by 10%. Coincidentally, the salary of the President of SFU’s has increased by 51%.
Even though the University continues to raise tuition, they’ve told us to expect nothing in the form of a pay raise. Nothing, when adjusted for inflation, is yet another pay cut.
If you believe that you are doing just as good a job as the TA's and Sessional Instructors in 1984, then you should get involved in your union. The numbers speak for themselves.
