About the United Way of the Lower Mainland

United Way has helped people in the Lower Mainland for more than 75 years. Our community is growing and changing. Resources are stretched to their limits. Help is not consistently available. United Way works to meet emerging challenges and improve social conditions.

We identify critical social issues through research and community input. With our partners, we act to prevent problems and create measurably better communities.

  • Children birth to age 6 - everyone's potential can be realized
  • Children 6 - 12 - every person has value
  • Seniors - everyone has something to contribute
  • Community impact - success depends on all of us
  • Stronger communities - a safe, supportive community is everyone's responsibility.

Today United Way of the Lower Mainland plays a leadership role in mobilizing resources to change lives and strengthen the community. We support the delivery of preventive programs and services that help people find their way.

Our Vision
A healthy, caring, inclusive community.

Our Mission
To strengthen our community's capacity to address social issues.

United Way has traditionally raised the majority of its funds through workplace campaigns like the one at SFU. Across the Lower Mainland, companies big and small have partnered with the United Way to give their employees the opportunity to make a difference in their community. Results include:

  • Community involvement - give back and make a difference
  • Convenient and affordable giving options such as payroll deduction and electronic pledging
  • United Way's knowledge of the community ensures contributions are directed where they will have the greatest impact on your community
  • Strategic giving - you can direct where your donation is used (children assistance, youth & family, health conditions and disabilities, poverty, seniors)
  • Being a United Way partner is about more than just giving back to your community - it's about being a vital part of your community and making a measurable difference.
